My retirement, which seemed so far away, was suddenly something we could plan for with confidence.
When I first met Gavin, I was a company director, married with two grown-up children. My life felt far too busy to give much thought to the state of my pension, but I was conscious that I was putting a significant amount of money each month into a pension fund that I really didn’t understand much about. I also had several other pensions from previous jobs that I knew little or nothing about.
Gavin took my information, went away, and then came back to tell me what I should do. He made it all sound so simple, and I was pleasantly surprised that my retirement, which seemed so far away, was suddenly something we could plan for with confidence.
My career circumstances changed when I was in my mid-50s, and I became self-employed. I was incredibly nervous about our future, as I no longer had a generous pension contribution from my employer, and I thought that my earlier optimism was misplaced. Gavin immediately took another look at my pension plans and provided me with a document that quickly became our “route planner” for the future.
Gavin detailed how and when I should use my pension assets to achieve our goals and, factoring in our State Pensions, he gave us the confidence and assurances we had hoped for. I recently started drawing my State Pension, and we are looking forward to the next stage of our lives, which is in no small part thanks to Gavin.
